Coastside Chess Clubs

We are accepting donations to support: professional coaching sessions, discounted chess sets for kids and clubs, scholarships for qualified children to chess meets, special chess clinics, and much more. Please contact us to find out how you can help.

Recognition

We have two methods of recognition for our members:

Rank

This refers to the level of commitment by the student to the group, the team, and the organization. We develop youth leadership by providing an opportunity for chess players to demonstrate, not only their skill in chess, but also their mastery of the sport by mentoring their own peers. As they develop and their peers improve, further promotion, responsibility, and a valuable growth and learning experience is available to them.

Pawn Learner of the "Opening Rules"
Knight Training three "Pawns" on a regular basis
Bishop Training three "Pawns" and responsible for two "Knights"
Rook Responsible for Three Bishops and taking on Team Leadership Role

Points

We encourage and recognize all chess play. Win, lose, or draw, players receive points for all chess activity with friends, family, online, and at the chess meets. All points are offically recorded and kept by the "Master Scorekeeper". The players also keep their own points tracker card to record points and earn stickers and prizes for completing the card.

Coastside Chess Quads

Each Coastside Chess Quad consists of 4 players. Each quad is balanced to have roughly the same ability and skill level within the quad. Each player in the quad will play each other player in that quad - usually twice resulting in 6 chess games, one as black and one as white, versus 3 other players in the quad.

Points are awarded as described in the "Recognition - Points" section. Point ties at the end of the rounds are broken by evaluating the matches between those two players in earlier rounds of this meet. If there is no clear tie-break, then both players will receive the same award and the next place is skipped.
